The Plan

On Saturday, November 14, 2009, volunteers from local colleges will participate in a mass meal-packaging event/ benefit festival downtown at Amazement Square’s Rotary Centennial Riverfront Skatepark.

Our goal is to package 20,000 meals to be distributed overseas by Stop Hunger Now, a world hunger organization based out of Raleigh, NC, and founded by former Bedford resident Ray Buchanan.  Mr. Buchanan will be a keynote speaker at the event and will highlight the vision of the Operation Sharehouse Project.  Lynchburg is the home of one of the first Operation Sharehouse warehouses that will serve to contribute to the world’s food supply for the least fortunate on the planet.

Admission to the event will be free for all volunteers and tickets will be sold to the general public at select locations and online.  Live bands will perform in the skatepark where on-going skateboarding demonstrations will happen throughout the day.  An array of local businesses will be represented in the Vendor’s Village and food and beverages will be served inside.  All in all, eclectic musical performances will serve to inspire and promote togetherness for everyone throughout the day and hungry bellies around the world will be fed.
